Grant-Funded Construction Skills Training - Open to Everyone!
Looking to change careers or gain new skills? The Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA-Hawaii) offers a grant-funded, public training program provided through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) in partnership with Work Hawaii. This program is offered at no cost to participants and is designed to equip individuals with essential skills for the workforce.
What You'll Learn:
- Interpersonal Skills: Build trust and teamwork skills essential for construction work.
- Industry Insights: Hear from guest speakers representing various trades, sharing the realities of the construction industry.
- Hands-On Experience: Participate in a hard hat tour of an active residential subdivision development.
- Technology & Project-Based Learning: Enhance your understanding through visual and interactive learning methods.
Green PACT Curriculum:
Developed with industry input, this curriculum covers key pre-apprenticeship fundamentals:
- OSHA-30 Safety & Health Standards
- Basic Construction Knowledge & Skills (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical)
- First Aid & Adult CPR w/bloodborne pathogens
- Fundamentals of Green Building
- Lead RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting)
- 15-Hour OSHA Disaster Training
6-Week Training Schedule:
Week 1: Orientation, CPR/First Aid/AED Training, Basic Math Principles
Week 2: OSHA-30, Basic Math Principles
Week 3: Basic Math Principles, Print & Facilities
Week 4: Print, Facilities, Green Building Fundamentals
Week 5: Review, Facilities, Job Readiness, Site Tour
Week 6: Facilities, Job Readiness, Green Building Fundamentals
Career Pathways:
This training prepares participants for entry-level positions such as carpenter, electrician, equipment operator, and plumber. It also lays the foundation for advanced career paths, including architect, engineer, and construction site supervisor.

- DOL Nationally Recognized Credential
- Home Builder Institute (HBI) Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT)
- Fundamentals of Green Building from BIA’s Construction Training Center of the Pacific
- OSHA-30 Construction Safety and Health Certification
- Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Certification from the American Red Cross
- 15-Hour OSHA Disaster Certification
- Lead RRP Certification
