Course Overview
This advanced training program is specifically designed to prepare individuals to function as a designated "Competent Person" as defined by OSHA and HIOSH regulations. A competent person has the skill, knowledge, and authority to identify existing and predictable hazards, and take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them. This course provides individuals with advanced knowledge to help meet the competent person requirements. Note that only the employer may authorize an individual as a competent person.

Key Learning Objectives

Competent Person Authority & Responsibility: Ability to define the roles, responsibilities, and required oversight for fall protection.

Advanced Hazard Assessment: Conduct site evaluations, identify predictable fall hazards, and implement the hierarchy of fall controls.

System Selection & Calculations: Evaluate common methods of fall protection, including guardrails and personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and calculate precise free-fall/clearance distances.

Equipment Inspection & Maintenance: Perform and document mandatory pre-use and periodic inspections of harnesses, lanyards, anchors, and connecting hardware.

Fall Rescue & Post-Fall Planning: Develop, implement, and manage an effective fall rescue plan to mitigate suspension trauma.

Workplace Training Requirements: Monitor and guide authorized users on the jobsite.

This course is intended for project managers, superintendents, foremen, and crew leaders designated by their employer to oversee fall protection systems and ensure regulatory compliance on construction or industrial jobsites.
