Description
Join BIA Hawaii for the Construction Hike for Hope: Raising Awareness for Suicide Prevention
Starting June 1, BIA Hawaii will be organizing weekly hikes every Sunday throughout June to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention in the construction industry.
These hikes will help us prepare for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Hawaiʻi Chapter’s community event: the Construction Hike for Hope on Sunday, June 29 at 12 PM at Aiea Loop Trail.
According to CDC data, the construction and extraction industries have the highest rate of suicide in the United States. Through these hikes, we aim to spotlight the importance of mental health, saving lives, and bringing hope to those in our industry.
Each Sunday in June, we will meet at Aiea Loop Trail at the top parking lot, by the bathrooms.
Weekly Sunday Hike Schedule:
To accommodate a wide range of fitness levels, we’ll gradually build our endurance each week.
Our training goal is to eventually reach the halfway point of the Aiea Loop Trail — a scenic overlook where you can view the H-3 Freeway.
First Sunday (June 1): Hike in for 15 minutes, then turn back.
Second Sunday (June 8): Hike in for 20 minutes, then turn back.
Third Sunday (June 15): Hike in for 25 minutes, then turn back.
Fourth Sunday (June 22): Hike in for 30 minutes, then turn back.
Each hike is designed to help participants build confidence, enjoy the outdoors, and strengthen community connections while raising awareness for mental health.
Waiver of Liability: By registering, I acknowledge that I am aware of the risks associated with participating in the hike, including, but not limited to: slips and falls, exposure to wildlife, unpredictable weather, dehydration, and other hazards associated with outdoor activity. I voluntarily assume full responsibility for my own safety during the event. I hereby release and hold harmless Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA HAWAII), its board members, employees, volunteers, sponsors, and partners from any and all liability, claims, losses, or damages before, during, or after the event.
