Description
What is CAPS?
The National Association of Home Builders Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation courses, teaches professionals how to address the accessible and functional challenges within a home that most people face daily, but especially our aging and disability population. Learn how various design concepts, methods and products can enhance remodeling, modifying or designing contemporary homes that are safer, accessible and functional, as well as aesthetically pleasing.
CAPS professionals will learn how to communicate effectively with clients, identify various challenges on the exterior and interior of a home and offer their client possible solutions for current or for future lifestyle changes; which may allow them the choice to live independently in their home for their lifetime.

CAPS II: Design Concepts for Livable Homes and Aging in Place
Focus: Design solutions that support safety, mobility, and independence
- Principles of universal and accessible design
- Room-by-room strategies for aging-in-place upgrades
- Product selection and assistive technologies
- Balancing function, aesthetics, and budget
To Earn the CAPS Designation:
- Complete CAPS I, II, and III
- Sign the CAPS Code of Ethics
- Submit a Designation Application & Graduation Fee
